This weekend’s what’s going on will be a bit more family friendly.
To start things off, the Forest Park Merchants Association will be holding their “Summer Sale” Saturday from 10am – 6pm. Among the festivities Gaia’s is celebrating their 15th year in business with 15% off the entire store. 15 years ago if you wanted a pair of Birk’s, Gaia’s was the only place in town where you could get ‘em. Stop in Saturday and pick up the next fashion fad before it becomes popular for 15% off…
In addition, other stores in the area will be offering discounts of 10%-50% various items. These sales nearly always have a great turnout, so come out and experience all that Forest Park has to offer.

Later on that Afternoon (around 4pm), the fam and I will be picking sunflowers in downtown Birmingham in the Gardens of Park Place
on the Corner of 7th Avenue N & 25th St.
There will be live music, food, U-pick sunflowers, a crop maze, Aztec dancing, movies at dusk, the unveiling of the Gardens of Park Place sign (created by Sloss Summer Program) and several activities for the kids.
Hope to see you there

Don’t know how to celebrate Bastille Day like a true Birmingham Frenchy?
Dre and Shadowhelm have got some good ideas…
From Pat Forde of ESPN.com, The five most startling sights on the recruiting trail this July::
Mike Davis (3) wearing green — in Indiana. After five melodramatic years as coach of the home-state Hoosiers, it was something to see Davis flying the colors of the UAB Blazers. His smile, though, has rarely been wider. As Davis told The Minutes, “You have the second-best job in America. I have the best.“ Davis said he’s gained 15 pounds since being in Birmingham, feasting on southern cooking. Guess he’s over the Alford Flu that kept him out of IU’s home game against Iowa.
It’s July in Alabama, less than 50 days from College Football, and I can’t wait for Basketball to start….
That should tell you how much confidence I have in Watson Brown for ‘06.
GO BLAZERS!
Well, I got word that my grandmother wasn’t doing very well early Friday afternoon, (see my last post) so I missed out on seeing what undoubtably was an awesome show (if you went, please post up your impressions!).
This weekend it looks like it’ll be Wild Sweet Orange playing right down the street from casa de 3cho @ Bottletree Doors @ 8PM, $10/head.

She fought lymphoma for the last 5 years and she was tough as nails every step of the way. Just this morning, as her breathing was labored, and just several hours before she quit breathing on her own, she told the doctor that she was feeling great.
I’m very thankful for the time that I sent with her and I’m glad that she got to know her first great-grandaughter over the past 11 months.
I love you and I’ll miss you Nana.
