No this post is not about the Honda Civic as I no longer have one in my driveway, and this post is not categorized under Dork stuff : Cars…
I’ve been thinking of starting a website to give the citizens of Birmingham a peek into the minds and intentions of those running for City Council.
Our City Council has a long and storied past of corruption, bickering, and backstabbing. But WE elect these people. They somehow convince us that they will be different. They will help to turn this city around and make it better. It seems, especially lately, that nothing our government (city, county and state) does actually benefits this place we call home. Any of the recent developments that actually can/will benefit our city have been the result of private entities.
Anyway, back to my idea….
I want to create a website where the people running for city council can tell us what they stand for, and what they will do to end the debacle we call a city council.
I am concerned about a few things, however. Like not getting any of the candidates to respond because they don’t take me seriously.
Maybe I should try to get the backing of an organization like Catalyst for Birmingham but I’m honestly not sure if that would fit in with their mission.
I also have zero experience as a “reporter” or interviewer.
Who knows maybe I can get some people interested in this plan that do have experience where I don’t. I just have an idea, and a desire to change the way Birmingham works.
Huge thanks go out to my mom for watching Fairlyn for a few hours tonight!
We didn’t get away from the house until 10 till 7, so that meant postponing dinner until after the movie.
And we were one of about 4 couples (including two Hispanic fellows that seemed mighty friendly with one another) so our “high school make out session” only lasted a grand total of about 30 seconds before we all were getting sort of uneasy about it (BB and I have never been one’s for excessive PDA).
Our dinner choice was Rojo. We lucked up and grabbed the only open table on the patio (not without having to scrounge around for a few chairs) made our dinner selections and while BB secured our table, I went in and ordered.
Spinach Burrito and an Amstel Light for the misses, and a big ‘ol Grilled Chicken Sandwich (think Superior Grill type chicken for about half of the price) and a Hoegarden for me. Brandi and I washed down the meal with a good bit of catching up about friends, family, and how we’re soaking this whole “being parents” thing in. The few lulls in our conversation were filled in by the table full of mid 20’s OTM ladies discussing the best cure for a hangover (here’s a hint Amber, those 4 Aleve and 6 cosmo’s ain’t gonna make your liver too happy).
Our first date postpartum was perfectly timed. By the time we made it home, we were both missing our little Monkey Doodle, and BB so affectionately calls her…. (that and BB’s boobs were about to explode from going 4 hours *without nursing). So I got to thank my mom repeatedly and spend some QT with the Monkey Doodle while BB put on her pj’s…
It was an awesome evening!
*tonight also marked the first time that little Monkey Doodle took a bottle (full of pumped breast milk). She’s already a pro, and she seems to be sleeping much harder than normal. . . Hrm, interesting.
/\ That was the subject of Brandi’s email…
“Date Night?” I thought…
A Date Night with a … lemme see here (break out the calendar) 1, 2, 3, 4…. 21 day old daughter at home???
Well it seems like my Mom has offered to watch Fairlyn for a few hours while Brandi and I run down the street for a quick bite to eat at either V. Richards or Silvertron if the wait’s not so bad (warning, hideous website to be found via that last link).
Then it’s off to our very nearby and relatively empty PACKED (when a movie like Four Brothers opens) movie theater. I think we’re going to catch Mr. and Mrs. Smith (at the wife’s request). Although when we get there she will probably decide that she wants to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory instead. Such is the fickleness of a postpartum woman.
The good news to all of this is that both of these movies have been out for a few weeks, and since most of the clientelle of said movie theater will be watching Four Brothers. That leaves us with the very good possibility of an empty theater, which (depending on the mood of said postpartum woman ) could lead to some good ‘ol highschool-type theater making out.
The bad news to all of this is . . .
Back again after a one week hiatus…
They say you can see a person’s soul though their eyes…
It looks like you can see my camera, parts of my bathroom, and about how little sleep I’ve been getting lately through my eyes.

click for a HUGE creepy eyeball
I’ve found myself a bit busy with my infant…
Who knew?
But, I’d like to take a second to point out an awesome post made by local artisan (Musician, Actor, web designer, etc.) Kenn McCracken over on his blog.
Kenn could have very well crawled up inside of my head and extracted his words straight from my brain (Well everything he wrote except for the whole hair dying thing, I couldn’t pull that off). It is like he and I were on the exact same train of thought as I was about to write a post about the same thing after reading what is quite possibly the same exact article that inspired him to write his post…
