So some jackass (or jackasses) managed to scare a majority of the northwestern portion of the state of Alabama into thinking that there would be a strike by truck drivers, which would result in major gas shortages (and technically shortages of everything else since if you can touch it, and it’s not alive, it came on a truck).
News story here. It has all of the stuff you’d expect, long lines, 55 gallon drums being filled with gas (seriously, this guy was on the 10PM news last night spending upwards of $1200 on gas). In my opinion, if there truly is a trucker strike, gas will be the least of my worries. I think I’d start with food.
A quick Google News search shows that this seems to be limited to northwestern Alabama…. odd.
EDIT: I’ve been getting tons of search engine hits from this article (in fact, I’m the first result when searching for Alabama Gas Shortages @ MSN Search). Just keep in mind that this article was originally posted on August 18th 2005

i really like the saying (fact)if you can touch it and its not alive then it got here by truck.a lot of people take for granted what truckers go through to get the food, fuel, clothes, furniture even the roads they travel on delivered or built.low pay, high fuel prices, higher insurance, heavy road taxes and being treated like a criminal is how were repaid.i have parked my rig until things change,if they ever do!i think i’ll just quit buying their fuel and go back to a real rig.
