If you live in Alabama (like I do), let your state Representative and Congressman know you don’t want any part of a bill to burn dump books in a big hole.
You can find out who your rep and senator is by going here:
Look up your Alabama rep
You’ll need to know your ZIP+4
For those of you that don’t know what this is about, HB30 which was introduced by Representative Gerald Allen of Tuscaloosa. (And people wonder why I despise the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa). HB30’s meat and potatoes follows:
No public funds or public facilities shall be used by any state agency, public school, public library, or public college or university for the purchase, production, or promotion of printed or electronic materials or activities that, directly or indirectly, sanction, recognize, foster, or promote a lifestyle or actions prohibited by the sodomy and sexual misconduct laws of the state of Alabama.
In other words, it bans books, and in the process makes our state look like a bunch of morons from the dark ages. Get on the phone, kick out an email, Get Mad.
Despite the fact that this bill died in the Education Committee last week, let your Rep and Congressman know that this type of Nazi action will not make Alabama a better state.

Agreed! You know, as much as I have ridiculed some liberals for claiming the religious right is trying to establish a Theocracy, I’m beginning to think that they have a point in some cases. Some people on the extreme right obviously think that it would be a good idea to base our laws on dogma. What’s really hypocritical is most of these same folks can see why this is a bad idea in the case of Islam, but think it’s the ideal situation in the case of Christianity. Oh well, AWTF!

This is the perfect reason to secede from the US again… State Rights vs Central Govt. That way, if you were a tree hugging liberal whiny ass queer, you could go to California and be praised… while here in Alabama, we could rid ourselves of them alltogether.
Ben, the reason it works for Christianity is because it doesnt say “go out and kill all those the offend Jesus or God” in the Bible, versus “Kill off anyone that causes trouble for Allah and Islam”… excuse me for paraphrasing, but you get the idea.
Im not a racist, and Im not a bigot… Im just tired of the minority getting to rule over the majority. If you want it, call up the reps… if you dont want it, call up the reps… and whomever has the most should win…
Hasnt been like that lately on a lot of issues.

KD, I’m not following you here…
My point to the entire post is that litterally burying the “problem” will not “make it go away”.
Ignorance is NOT bliss, ignorance is a direct path back to the dark ages.
