And most don’t talk enough….

So apparently my wife and I don’t talk enough, or I don’t listen, because it took a call from across the Atlantic Ocean (and some very loud talking on my part) for us to truly discuss our plans for the nursery baby’s room.

I don’t really like calling it a nursery, there’s only going to be one child in there, and most of the nursing will not happen in there I’m sure…

Anyway, we came to an agreement that I will be moving my office to the “sunroom” and my office will make way for the baby’s room. IMO, this will work out better than our previous plan of setting up the sunroom for the baby. Brandi had reservations about using my office since we just re-decorated it about a year ago. Oh well, babies call for sacrifices, and I’m willing to give up some room if it will make our lives a little easier.

Thanks Jason, I bet you never knew you could help us work out a problem from across the Atlantic did ya?

And now back to people who talk to much…
Some things a friend of mine said Saturday night has been really bothering me. I’m trying to get some insight from his blog:

while i will criticize friends who need to hear stuff, i am not critical, and am pretty accepting. sometimes i feel i sacrifice myself too much, especially in relationships, so as not to make the other person feel bad. i have realized recently that this is a problem. especially if something is wrong. sometimes you need to confront people to make them uncomfortable…. people are not motivated to change if they are comfortable… if something is bothering you and you act like you accept it nothing will change. you can at least let the other person know how you feel to create some tension, and perhaps motivation to change. i am dependable and loyal i suppose, and will fight tooth and nail for my friends. i suppose i am fun to be around and am at the least entertaining.

I can’t quite figure out if he’s attempting to be entertaining at my expense or my sister’s or both… Apparently all of his talk about his inability to understand that some people actually like him has only caused him to seek acceptance at the expense of others… Or maybe he actually thinks that he’s going to create tension and change something that he sees wrong in either of our lives. Well, if it’s something wrong in my life, he should tell me, and not call out my sister in order to do it….

Until then…

Ok, so back in September of 2004 my best friend Jason headed over to London for 6 months. He had just graduated from college and wanted to live a little before having to join the real world.

Since then, Jason has had his first truly drunken stupor, visited various parts of Europe, and (quite possibly) met the woman he will spend the rest of his life with. While I’m saddened to have missed out being able to witness these huge events first hand, I’m extremely happy to say that sometimes reading about stuff that Jason experiences is sometimes better than actually being there (he’s that good of a writer).

So check out jasonviana.com
and a few of my favorite posts of his:
Jason goes to Ireland for some Golf
Ireland part 2
Ireland part 3
Final Ireland post
Jason gets boofy blitzed

Anyway, check it out, it’s funny stuff….

Until then…

So I’ve spent most of this day at work playing around with WordPress, and various plugins that have been made for it.

For instance This Audioscrobbler plugin for WordPress made by Chris Coggburn. (Seen at the right under Recent Tracks) Unfortunately, Chris no longer updates that blog, and I can’t post the fix to a bug I found in his script.

I am not a PHP guru (by any means), but a bit of google goes a long way…

Anyway, here’s the fix, hopefully google will pick this up and it will help some other helpless soul out along the way:

Ok, i figured out why this thing is refreshing the cache file on each hit (at least on my site)

the function time() returns the number of seconds since the Unix Epoch and the function that is trying to figure out if the cache file needs to be updated uses it.

But it uses teh multiplier $rdfcachetime as if it’s for minutes because it only multiplies it by 60 instead of 3600 (the number of seconds in an hour).

So basically, change the following line (in audioscrobbler.php):
if (((!file_exists("cache_".$asusername.".rss")) || (time() - filemtime("cache_".$asusername.".rss")) > ($rdfcachetime * 60))) {

TO:
if (((!file_exists("cache_".$asusername.".rss")) || (time() - filemtime("cache_".$asusername.".rss")) > ($rdfcachetime * 3600))) {

I’m not quite sure what all will end up here. I got a great deal on hosting so I figured I’d put up a site.

I’m sure I’ll end up sharing some pics and info about the youngin’ that Brandi and I are expecting.

Until then…
